Thunder's three studio albums for EMI are complemented by a plethora of bonus tracks, single cuts, and B-sides. The band also delivers electrifying live recordings from The Town And Country Club and their Monsters Of Rock Donington debut.
Formed in early 1989 from the core of Terraplane, guitarist and songwriter Luke Morley, singer Danny Bowes, and drummer Gary "Harry" James were later joined by Ben Matthews on guitar and keyboards, along with Mark 'Snake' Luckhurst on bass for their debut album. Produced by Andy Taylor of Duran Duran, 'Backstreet Symphony' (CD1) was released in 1990, featuring an impressive five chart-topping singles. This success led to their performance at the 1990 Monsters Of Rock festival, which is captured in its entirety on CD3.
Their fan base and reputation continued to grow with the release of 'Laughing On Judgement Day' (CD4) in 1992, earning them their second consecutive gold album. This album, featuring hit singles such as 'Low Life in High Places', 'Everybody Wants Her', 'A Better Man', and 'Like a Satellite', reached No.2 on the UK album charts.
Following the release of their third album 'Behind Closed Doors' (CD6) in 1995, bassist 'Snake' Luckhurst was replaced by Mikael Höglund. Yet again, Thunder scored a hit with this album, which included singles like 'Stand Up', 'River Of Pain', and 'Castles In The Sand'.
By 1996, Thunder had parted ways with EMI, leaving behind a legacy of three iconic albums and a collection of great singles. Their dedication to their fans is evident in the inclusion of non-album tracks and alternative versions on many of their singles. Songs like 'Until The Night Is Through (Dance Dance Dance)', 'I Can Still Hear The Music', and 'No Way Out Of The Wilderness' from 'Backstreet Symphony'; 'She's My Inspiration', 'With A Little Help From My Friends', 'Bigger Than Both Of Us', and 'Dangerous Rhythm' from 'Laughing On Judgement Day'; and 'One Pretty Woman', 'The Fire Is Gone', and 'Life In A Day' from 'Behind Closed Doors' showcase Thunder's commitment to delivering value to their fans.
